I already made a post about this amazing place, check it out, very close to Lençóis. After two hours hiking, on average, we arrived at this very beautiful waterfall called Sossego, which means peacefulness. Follows some new pictures taken by the dutch photographer, writer and tour guide Tom van der Leij, Toms Travels Tours.

Trekking Vale do Pati, three days trekking from Vale do Capão to Andaraí

Para aqueles que gostam de trilhas mais exigentes, que gostam de fazer camping selvagem e que acima de tudo apreciam belas paisagens uma boa pedida é fazer uma caminhada, de quatro dias, que passa pela cachoeira do XXI e depois segue para a cachoeira da Fumaça, que é vista do topo e de baixo, desde seu poço.

For those seeking more demanding trekkings, with wilderness camping and above all for those who appreciate beautiful landscapes, the trail through the canyon of Fundão River, passing by the XXI Waterfall and by the second largest waterfall in Brazil, the Fumaça Waterfall is a must around Lençóis, Chapada Diamantina, Brazil. Moreover, as we start and finish at Lençóis this is a relatively cheap trail, because we don’t need to rent a car.

Saímos cedo de Lençóis subindo a serra do Grisante, pela mesma trilha que liga Lençóis ao Vale do Capão, em direção ao local chamado de Boqueirão. Esse trecho tem algumas partes íngremes entre alguns trechos planos, até a primeira parada gastamos cerca de uma hora. Após um bom descanso e banho na cachoeirinha do Grisante, seguimos para o vale do rio Ribeirão, o mesmo rio da cachoeira do Sossego. Nosso destino agora é o lugar onde o córrego do Fundão deságua no rio Ribeirão. Após um bom descanso e banho subimos pelo cânion do rio do Fundão até o local de acampamento, a cachoeira do XXI fica nesse cânion, acima da belíssima cachoeira do Fundão. Ao redor do XXI existem ótimos locais para pernoite, seja em barraca ou nos lajedos. Nesse dia andamos cerca de cinco horas.

We left Lençóis by the morning, going up the Serra do Grisante. After about one hour we arrived at the Grisante Cascade, a small waterfall perfect to rest and to have some snacks. After this stop our destiny is the Canion of Ribeirão River, direct to the place where the Fundão River meets the Ribeirão, there begins the canyon we will walk through until the XXI Waterfall. After resting, swimming in a perfect pool and eating we follow walking up the canyon. Before arriving at the XXI we pass by the beautiful Fundão Waterfall. After it, in 30 minutes we arrive at our camping ground. At the surroundings of XXI Waterfall there are very good places for camping, with or without tent. This day we walked around five hours.

No terceiro dia nossa missão foi chegar até o acampamento na Cachoeira da Capivara, no rio Capivara, após passarmos algum tempo curtindo a água gelada e o visual incrível do poço da Fumaça. Após dois dias de descidas e subidas, caminhamos pelo fundo do vale do córrego da Fumaça, numa trilha agradável e sombreada até o local conhecido como Toca do Macaco, onde o córrego da Fumaça encontra o rio Capivara. Lá descansamos, comemos e seguimos rio abaixo até nosso acampamento. A cachoeira da Capivara é um dos melhores lugares para acampar em que já estive. Um enorme lajedo com tocas e espaço para muitas pessoas circunda a cachoeira com seu poço profundo e diversos locais para mergulhar, desde um metro de altura até cerca de 16 metros para os mais arrojados. Talvez esse terceiro dia seja o mais fácil da trilha, não há subidas pronunciadas e caminhamos cerca de cinco horas.

By the morning of the third day we went down to the pool of Fumaça Waterfall, an impressive place to swim and relax a bit. This day is the easiest, after lots of ups and downs the trail takes us from the pool to the Capivara River, through an almost flat ground, under the shades and beside the Córrego da Fumaça. Our destiny is the camping ground at the Capivara Waterfall, definitely one of the most beautiful places I ever made camp. Surrounding an amazing waterfall there is a huge stone ledge, with room for lots of people. There are also places to put tents, but if there is not rain coming, it’s possible to sleep comfortably under the stars. We walked around five hours at all.

No quarto e último dia chegamos a Lençóis, passando pela cachoeira do Palmital, pelo mirante da Toca da Onça e finalmente descendo a Serra do Veneno até próximo ao ribeirão do Meio, com seu tobogã natural. Dali para Lençóis foram apenas mais 40 minutos caminhando para um merecido descanso.

The fourth and last day took us to Lençóis. We went down the Capivara River and up the Córrego do Palmital (Palmital Creek, palmital means palm-heart) where we visited the beautiful Palmital Waterfall, after a while we went up until we left the huge canyon of Capivara River. Then we made a rest and eating stop at a terrific viewpoint, the Toca da Onça (Jaguar’s Cave) before following down the Serra do Veneno, until the Ribeirão River at a place called Ribeirão do Meio (Middle Ribeirão) with its amazing natural waterslide. From there to Lençóis was only 40 minutes walking to a well deserved rest and dinner.
